Community
Building relationships and fellowship among Liberians living across Nigeria’s chapters and regions.
Our Mission & Vision
OLICON exists to bring Liberians living in Nigeria together — through unity, solidarity, fellowship, and a shared commitment to community life far from home.
Our Mission
“To promote the unity, solidarity and cohesion of Liberians living within the borders of Nigeria.”
Bringing Liberians together across communities, chapters, regions, and backgrounds — so scattered groups become one fellowship with a shared sense of belonging.
Standing with one another through mutual support, service, and collective responsibility — keeping the bond of fellowship alive in a land away from home.
Strengthening relationships, cooperation, and a shared community identity — so Liberians across Nigeria can move forward together.
Mission in action
OLICON’s mission is lived out in the everyday work of fellowship, learning, care, and cultural continuity — not as a slogan, but as a way of being community.
Building relationships and fellowship among Liberians living across Nigeria’s chapters and regions.
Creating room for learning, knowledge sharing, educative talks, and activities that strengthen understanding across generations.
Responding to community needs and supporting members through care, advocacy, and presence in difficult times.
Preserving Liberian identity through music, dance, storytelling, and celebration — while contributing positively to Nigerian society.
Our core values
These values are drawn from OLICON’s documented language, mission, and leadership messages — the ideas that continually shape how the community understands itself.
Unity is central to OLICON’s identity and future — not merely an ideal, but a chosen way forward.
Named in the official mission: standing together as Liberians living within Nigeria’s borders.
Keeping the bond of fellowship alive and assisting one another to grow stronger far from home.
Working so every member feels valued, seen, and included in the life of the community.
Preserving Liberian identity and cultural continuity while living and contributing in Nigeria.
Giving time, care, and leadership for the welfare and dignity of fellow Liberians.
Renewed focus and collective responsibility — carrying the community’s future together.
Our Motto
Our motto affirms identity and pride — a declaration of Liberian heritage held with confidence while living in Nigeria.
Unity as the core idea
Across anniversary messages and convention themes, unity stands at the center of OLICON’s direction — the power that holds diversity, purpose, and collective responsibility together.
“Our diversity is our strength, but our unity is our power.”
Dr. Wede Wallace Edherue
Chairperson, Abuja Chapter · Board of Trustees
Looking ahead
OLICON looks toward a stronger community — one marked by renewed unity, redefined purpose, and a fellowship where members are embraced, valued, and included.
These aspirations are drawn from OLICON’s documented organizational direction in the 2026 anniversary material — presented as the future the community is working toward.
Our role in Nigeria
Liberians living in Nigeria work, build businesses, raise families, and contribute to the country’s development and cultural life — while keeping Liberian heritage alive and promoting peaceful coexistence with host communities.
Diaspora communities work, build, and raise families while adding value where they live.
Music, dance, food, language, and storytelling keep Liberian identity present in Nigerian life.
OLICON’s community life affirms peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and good citizenship.
Our emblem & symbolism
OLICON’s emblem places the flags of Liberia and Nigeria within a heart, with a handshake beneath — a visual expression of the organization’s identity in two nations.
The organization’s official colours are red, white, blue, and green. White and blue symbolize unity, peace, and solidarity; green represents OLICON’s existence in Nigeria as a community; red represents determination and sacrifice for the progress of the community.
Values in practice
OLICON’s values take shape in the real work of members and leaders — in fellowship, service, heritage, inclusion, and shared responsibility.
Members gathering, celebrating, and supporting one another across chapters and regions.
Leaders and members giving time to community needs, welfare, and the dignity of fellow Liberians.
Maintaining Liberian culture through performance, celebration, and intergenerational learning.
Working so members feel valued, seen, and included in the life of the organization.
Moving forward together — redefining purpose through renewed focus and shared commitment.
A leadership voice
“Unity is not merely an ideal — it is our chosen way forward. We redefine our purpose through renewed focus and collective responsibility, and we embrace all as we build a stronger community together.”
Daoda Kanneh
First National President · Board of Trustees
